thank you to the person who said she had difficulties w/ lower body because that is my worry. I would LOVE to kayak - but getting in/out of kayak and standing up worries me. I have bad hips so lifting legs to a 90 degree angle is very doable, but extremely painful. Working on stretching the muscles - but how do you get in/out?

Christina - Thank you for posting that! I'm researching kayaks right about now. . .I have a size 24/26 bum myself, and I've been looking at the Wilderness Pungo 120 (a 17 footer is a LITTLE too long for me). It has a 22" wide cockpit; I just checked the specs on the Tsunami and it's 20" wide. I'm terrified to go to our local outfitter because I can't bear the thought of the humiliation should I not fit. . . but. . . I think I just need to get over myself and go!

Daria - I am about 300 lbs and I just found my dream kayak! It's a sea kayak so it's super stable and can carry up to 400 lbs (so you can pack lots of gear too!). It's a Wilderness Systems Tsunami 175. That means it's 17.5 feet long (a big boat!) but the cockpit fits my size 24 bum!!! I LOVE it and am about to head out on the water this morning. :-)

I'm looking for a fat girl kayak. Just not sure where to start. I loved the sport when I was smaller, but at 312 I'm not sure I'd fit. I like the sit in ones and don't have issues with mobility, but want something more mobile and more of a waist work out then the sit on tops. Any suggestions for actual models that support a very plus sized lady? I found this site looking for just this. Nothing is keeping me back, except me.. and "average size" modifiers
