Ask FGG: Where can I find form-fitting, plus-size pants?
White Stag Woman “Stretch”, size 22 average
I’m a size 20 with a lot of junk in the trunk, so to speak, and a post-baby belly, but my waist in back curves in a little bit. Pants that fit my hips, belly and butt well end up gaping in the back at the waistline. Do you know if any nice, zip-up pants made to fit this kind of body shape?”
I can hear the collective whoosh of the plus-size community nodding in unison. I’m sure our readers will have their favorites to suggest, but I can tell you that White Stag Woman definitely gets that we aren’t shaped like cardboard boxes – uniform from the bottom up. Several White Stag styles are nice because they can double as a work or casual pant, and their shape minimizes the post-baby belly outline.
Unfortunately I don’t see them around often, but at last check Walmart still carried these, and there’s an array of styles and sizes to be found on eBay as well.
What about our readers? What’s your favorite fitted pant?

Catherine’s and Lane Bryant have the True Fit pants and they fit perfectly. I too have a lot of junk in my trunk and my bootcut jeans from Catherine’s hug my hips and my waist even though I have a 11 inch difference between the two.
I agree with Kristy. I buy the Lane Bryant True Fit jeans. I’m a size 22 and 5’11″ and 20 years old. I learned that my ‘yellow triangle’ tall-flare jeans fit me perfectly and are still in style. Not only do the True Fit pants come in jeans, but they come in khakis, and other dress pants. I definitely recommend them.
I’m a size 18 tall and I agree that Lane Bryant’s True Fit are great. Other options are Lee’s Comfort Fit jeans that have a elastic waistband hidden inside. Super comfy and no-gap waist! My favorite jeans right now are Lee’s Slender Secret Curvy jeans. Tons of stretch but holds it’s shape even if you wear them a second day. Plus you can buy them at Walmart, Sears or Kohls which ends up being cheaper than Lane Bryant most days.
Thanks ladies, you’re awesome!
Check out these – http://is.gd/4tcK7 – Torrid Denim Black High-Waist Lace-Up Wide Leg Pant Regular. Best pants I have ever owned. They actually lace up at the back which keeps them sitting just right (and you can adjust them!). They sit flat and are so comfy. They’re also a very light denim so you don’t get as sweaty in them which is important for me living in Australia in the Summer.
I’ve got a pair of jeans here that I got at Walmart last year, they’re Riders Comfort no-gap waistband. The caveat is that while they are a really nice DARK black…..they also smell funny. It took months of wearing and washing to get that smell out completely. I can best describe it as something similar to gasoline or machine oil, it’s something to do with the dying process. Perhaps only for black?
Thanks for the great suggestions, keep ‘em coming.
I just saw the pants I talked about are on sale Was: $58.00 Now: $19.99. Thought I’d mention it here. I’m buying myself a 2nd pair.
Awesome, thank you! The link was coming up with a blank page, so I went in and found the pants and re-linked them. Seems okay now. GREAT deal.
I love Eddie Bauer dress pants and Cato jeans!
Hey Cat – thanks, any particular one(s) you can point to?
I’ve become a big fan of clothing from Lands’ End. I haven’t bought any pants from them since last year and it looks like they have new styles this season. I stay away from anything with tapered legs and I try to by things when they go on sale.
try deb (www.debshops.com), they are amazing and cheap and look so good. torrid is expensive and always highwaisted. i wear a 16/18 and buy from them all the time. low rise, flare, good fades and affordable!
Thanks ladies!
I’m 5’0″ and size 20 on top, 16-18WP on the bottom. After being a SAHM for 8 years, my wardrobe consists of t-shirts and jeans. I’m in school and will be re-entering the workforce as a paralegal, so I’ve been shopping for a professional wardrobe – which I discovered is a lot harder than it was 8 years ago, when I wore smaller sizes (is anyone else frustrated that the plus-size departments don’t have nearly the selection or cute styles as the so-called “regular” size departments?? Stores need to get a clue that Fat Chicks like great fashion, too!)
If you have money to spend, I found some great fitting, great quality tailored pants at Talbot’s (make sure your Talbots carries women’s/women’s petite sizes – not all do). All-season wool pants are about $150 (they are lined), but as many of us know, it is well worth the $ to find clothes that fit well, not to mention are made well with excellent fabrics. I was frustrated that the pants I tried on in the store were backordered on Talbots’ website (I didn’t have the cash to buy them on the day I tried them on).
I was deflated when I went to VonMaur’s Women’s department – most of the professional dress pants and jackets were polyester. Exactly what I DON’T want! However, I did find a couple pair of “business-casual” cotton blend pants for $50 (they are a little more dressy than typical Dockers). My local VonMaur is pretty small, so the Women’s department is terrible – it doesn’t carry Ralph Lauren like the larger ones do, and most of their clothes look like they were made for teens (sparkles and studs all over) or grannies (you *know* that look). They do carry nice shirts for work, though…
I went to Macy’s and hit the jackpot. I found a great pair of charcoal gray dress pants for about $50 (and some great shirts for $30 ea.!), as well as a longer flowy polyester blend skirt (icky polyester, but it doesn’t look shiny or feel icky). I would have bought more pants than just the charcoal, but I already had the two pair from VonMaur.
So now I have three outfits suitable for interviewing (I’m chancing it and not wearing a jacket – they look terrible on me) for approx. $300. This includes 3 pants, 1 skirt, 2 shirts and a pair of black faux-eel pumps for $40. I already had one dress shirt, and I just need to buy one more
AWESOME run-down, thanks Nicole!
