Stuff We Love: Land’s End Yoga Pants

Comfy, durable, cute, and cut to fit fat girls

Comfortable in my own pants

I love yoga. The reasons are many: it’s a low impact activity (perfect for my myriad prior injuries), practice can be adjusted to suit just about any ability level (no need to take one of those overachieving “power yoga” classes to reap its benefits) and body type (I am a master at adjusting poses to suit my ample lower belly), and it makes me feel fantastic, inside and out (I leave class feeling both relaxed and energized – unlike anything else physical I do, except maybe for sex!).

Let’s face it: yoga pants are inexpensive and easy to find at just about any major retailer. Those yoga pants are just fine, and fortunately, you don’t need any specialized equipment to practice yoga. But if you want comfortable, well-made, sturdy, flattering yoga pants that will last you for years, check out these beauties from Land’s End. The fabric wicks away moisture from your body and prevents the growth of bacteria–distinct advantages if you’re a sweaty Betty like me. They’re also nicely insulated–I never feel the cold when walking to and from yoga in our freezing Illinois winters–and I just love the thickness and firm flexibility of this fabric.

The only down side to these yoga pants is the price: $48.50 for plus (IX and 2X) and tall sizes (where regular and petite pay $42.50). However, my pear-shaped, size 20-but-pushing-22-for-a-while-now bod fits into their regular XL (listed as an 18-20). Also, I only buy these on sale, and they are marked down once or twice a year–sign up for email deals on the Land’s End home page (they arrive almost-daily but there are new offers all the time) and become a fan on Facebook, where unique specials sometimes pop up. Finally, check your local Land’s End at Sears stores for in-store sales that aren’t advertised on the web and the Land’s End Outlet stores if you have one in your area (I once found the yoga pants for $28 at a Sears store).

Whatever your budget (and as a feast-or-famine freelancer, I love a good bargain), it’s always a good idea to have some items that really work in your wardrobe and are built to last. If all this yoga-in-comfy-pants talk has you excited to try yoga, check out the Fat Girl’s Guide to Yoga, and look for an upcoming Stuff We Love on yoga tops soon. And as always, share your fave finds in the comments section.

Don’t kill me for asking this, but if you’re in a pose where your leg(s) wind up over your head (like a headstand), how far do the pants fall up your leg toward your thighs? I am a bendy yogic overachiever who sometimes forgets to shave her legs and needs to know. :) Thanks in advance.

I won’t kill you, but I wish you could hear me laughing at the image of me being that bendy! I have some old injuries and stiffness that mean I have to take gentle classes for now. So I can’t really answer that except to say: no more than average yoga pants. The fabric is thicker/stiffer – when I put them on tomorrow I’ll lie on the floor and extend my legs in the air and post again. :)

Oh, how I miss yoga. I had to stop because of an Achilles injury at the end of ’09 and am still in physio for it. “Yoga is not allowed” until I have completed healing; since most of my favorite poses require increasing the angle of Achilles. :( She told me when I can go down the stairs like a normal person then I can do yoga again. Until then, I just whine about it. :D

But that doesn’t stop me from wearing my yoga pants. Love the pic of you in your yoga pants btw (you even painted your toes!). Frankly, while $48 (reg price) may seem like a lot for a pair of yoga pants I think they are worth it. They tend to last longer, hold their shape better, and deal with sweat better than a $20 (reg price) pair. I always try to get mine during end of season sales if I’m lucky enough to find my size. It’s not like the styles for basic yoga pants change much from one season to the next.

Who cares if you’ve shaved your legs? Grown women have hair on their legs, and sometimes they forget to shave them, or purposefully don’t shave them (hello…warmer in the winter). You’d be doing unshaven women everywhere a favor by exposing the shocked and sheltered masses to a little hair every so often in yoga class.

I love these! Like you mentioned though, the price is my only sticking point. If I have that much to spend on clothes (which happens almost never) I tend to look at cute skirts on Etsy and dream of where I could wear them.

  6. Great pants ! I also love yoga and yoga pants . All the best

Yoga is a very good exercise. For well body movement during practice a good pant is needed.

  8. Yoga clothes are great to use during your yoga sessions, especially the new hardtail yoga pants !

I hear they not not making these pants at Lands End anymore. Do you know of any similar places or pants. I loved the Lands End pants and want to find more or similar
