About 10 years ago I got a bad sprain in my right ankle hiking and rock-scrambling around the Virginia Range in northern Nevada. It seemed like that set off a chain reaction of other twists and sprains that have plagued that same ankle over the years, and even today, while it’s fully healed and no longer sensitive, I still feel myself feeling hesitant about relying on it in some situations.

So I was fascinated to read today’s post at NYT’s Well Blog about the neurological complications associated with ankle injuries, and what an easy fix it may be to get a steady, confident ankle back under control. I know weight can further complicate ankle health, plenty of my fellow fat girls have had similar issues, so I wanted to post it here for FGG readers. Take a look:

This is the essence of balance training, a supremely low-tech but increasingly well-documented approach to dealing with unstable ankles.”
